Mapes of Millport has been part of island life since 1946. For generations, visitors have come to Mapes for bikes, toys, seaside essentials and friendly service while enjoying Millport and the Isle of Cumbrae.

Today, Mapes is run by the Ferris family, continuing the tradition of a welcoming, family-focused business at the heart of the island. We are proud to combine the charm of a traditional toy shop with one of Scotland’s best-known island bike hire experiences.

From family days out and school groups to visitors cycling the island, buying toys, booking e-bikes, getting repairs or picking up fishing tackle, Mapes continues to be a central part of the Millport experience.

Mapes of Millport offers one of the largest and most varied cycle hire fleets on the Isle of Cumbrae, with over 400 bikes and more than 35 electric bikes available.

Our hire range includes standard bikes, children’s bikes, e-bikes, tandems, tricycles, tag-alongs, baby seats, dog trailers and family vehicles. Whether you are cycling the famous 10-mile island route, visiting with children, travelling as a group, or looking for extra assistance from an e-bike, we can help you choose the right option.

Alongside our cycle hire, Mapes is home to a traditional toy shop packed with toys, games, LEGO, pocket-money toys, seaside gifts, family favourites and nostalgic fun.

Our toy shop is a big part of the Mapes experience, especially for families visiting Millport. Whether you are looking for a treat after cycling round the island, a birthday present, rainy-day entertainment or something to take home from your visit, our toy shop is full of surprises.

Mapes also stocks a regularly changing range of fishing tackle and seaside fishing essentials in store. Our fishing range can include rods, reels, line, hooks, bait, crab lines, nets, buckets and children’s crabbing items.

Because fishing stock changes throughout the season, we do not list everything online. The best thing to do is pop into the shop on Guildford Street and see what is available on the day.
